I began the theme of MEDIA TRAFFIC in 2007. Caught as we are between television, newspapers, magazines, cell phones, iPads, computers, and billboards, whose advertising messages pull us in every direction, we believe ourselves to be moving forward. In reality, we are standing still. As you will see, each of the figures in these paintings is pulled in different directions, and their bodies themselves look both right and left.

Over the years I have been inspired to paint by tragedy, encounters with Holy relics, and memories of great artists who suddenly passed away. This section features a few of those inspired canvases.
In 2003 at the Hedge Funds Care Charity Event benefiting abused children, Marvin Posey created a painting live at the event, dancing as he painted. He created a beautiful large canvas of the Dallas Stars hockey player Mike Modano, whose foundation to help abused children was also a beneficiary of the event. Two weeks after I spoke with Marvin at this event, he passed away suddenly in his early 40s. I created this painting in memory and honor of him and his dedication to his art. There are pictures of him collaged into this work. Mixed media on canvas, 16 x 20 inches, 2003. Collection of the artist.

The two works here were created as part of a literacy project for Half Price Books in the 1990s. Half Price paired poets with visual artists, who would create a drawing based around their poem. The combined efforts of many poets and painters produced an annual book that was sold in Half Price Bookstores. All of the funds from these books benefited literacy projects in the D/FW area.

There are hidden worlds in each of us. Even Dostoyevsky spoke of this when he said: "Know how to live within yourself; there is in your soul a whole world of mysterious and enchanted thoughts; they will be drowned by the noise without; daylight will drive them away: listen to their singing and be silent."
